Papal Visit Store
The theme for Pope Benedict XVI's 2010 visit to the UK is Cor ad cor loquitur - Heart speaks unto heart. Cardinal John Henry Newman chose the words as the motto to go on his coat of arms. Heart speaks unto heart is a fitting choice for this papal visit as, on the final day of his Apostolic Journey, the Holy Father will beatify Cardinal Newman - the much-loved Victorian theologian. A range of merchandising from IVSGroup (the official merchandisers for the Papal Visit 2010) has been specifically tailored to reflect this theme.
The merchandise store can be accessed through the www.thepapalvisit.org.uk or directly using www.papalvisitstore.com.

York Catholic History Day
The annual York Catholic History Day will take place at the Bar Convent on Saturday 7th June 2008. The History days, which are co-sponsored by the Catholic Record Society, The English Catholic History Association and the Postgate Society, offer a varied programme of talks which appeal to anyone with an interest in Catholic History and attract an audience from Catholic, local and family history societies as well as others with a general interest.
Last year Martin Craven gave a paper on ‘Faith in Adversity: Evidence of Catholicism in Holderness, in the East Riding of Yorkshire in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries’; Moira Fulton gave a paper on ‘Three Catholic Landowners: contrasting Catholicism in mid-eighteenth century Yorkshire’ and Dr James Hagerty presented a paper on ‘The African Ministry of Archbishop Arthur Hinsley’.
This year Adam Morton (University of York) will present a paper on ‘The Coverdale Bible: putting Holbein’s frontispiece in perspective’; Nadine Lwycky (University of York) will present a paper on ‘Bishop Tunstall, 1530 – 1559′ and Emma Watson (Borthwick Institute) will present her paper entitled ‘Ringing in the Changes: responses to the Elizabethan Act of Settlement in Yorkshire, 1560 – 1580′.
The day will begin with coffee at 10.00 am and there will be two talks in the morning and one in the afternoon. The day will close with Mass in the Convent Chapel at 5.00 pm. The cost of the day will be £12.50 (no increase on last year’s charge), £6.00 for students and the unwaged, to include tea or coffee in the morning and afternoon, payable on the day. Light lunches are available in the Museum Cafe and there will be an opportunity to visit the Museum during the extended lunch break.
There is no need to book but further details are available from Judith Smeaton on (01904) 704525, e-mail judith.smeaton@btinternet.com or Dr Simon Johnson (07779) 114572, e-mail spj104@york.ac.uk
