Parenting Matters
Being a parent! Yes, it can be very rewarding. But it’s hard work! In family life today, we need a lot of support. With busy working parents, sometimes grandparents are involved more in child care too.

SO how can the Church support parents?
The Family Caring Trust (FCT) has helped millions of families over the last three decades, through every stage of family life.
The FCT ‘Parenting Programmes’ are designed to help build confident parents. They enable us as parents to improve how we relate and communicate with our children. They reduce the often-felt sense of isolation parents can feel. Through improved communication, parents can also improve discipline and co-operation, and can actually enjoy their children more! There’s no such thing as ‘the perfect parent’, but we can be ‘good enough’ – this course helps parents to become more confident and effective!
What Can a Parent Do? Is an excellent basic programme for parents of 5-15yr old children.
The course looks at:
- Reacting to behaviour you don’t like
- Encouragement as a tool
- Listening for feelings
- Talking with your child
- Discipline
- Quality time
You may become a happier parents, and it will make a world of difference to your children!
Think about the following statements:
- The squabbling and fighting drives me crazy!
- I’ve not time to myself – I’m exhausted – the children are so demanding!
- I feel so embarrassed when they are rude in front of other people!
- I plead, bribe, threaten – but nothing seems to work!
- Parents get blamed for everything – they don’t need blame, they need help!
- I’m worn out trying to get him to settle and stay in bed at night
There’s got to be a better way to bring up children
If you can tick at least one box, then you would enjoy a parenting course!
It’s not a dull, ‘classroom’ type course – its relaxing and fun. You’ll have some good laughs, and probably make some new friends. It will help you find your own ways of enjoying your children more and being more effective… it helps you to set guidelines and encourage effective discipline. It will help you as parent to reduce tensions and fighting, and create a more relaxed, respectful, friendly atmosphere at home.
