Apostleship of the Sea seeks Marathon Runner

Did you apply for the 2010 Virgin London Marathon Ballot? Was your name not called? If you failed to get through in the October ballot, and are disappointed that your dream of running in the London Marathon will now not come true, then do not worry! Seafarer’s charity, Apostleship of the Sea, has a place left for the 2010 marathon. Run for them and help to raise funds to support their work with seafarers.

Apostleship of the Sea is a frontline service for the care of seafarers visiting British shores. They provide practical and pastoral care to all seafarers. Their port chaplains and volunteer ship visitors welcome seafarers, offer welfare services and advice, practical help, care and friendship, according to our guiding principles of Mission, Solidarity, Welfare and Hospitality. Apostleship of the Sea in the UK is part of an international network known to the maritime world as Stella Maris.

Ninety five per cent of UK imported goods are transported by ship. However, the life of a modern seafarer can be dangerous and lonely. They may spend up to a year at a time away from home, separated from their family and loved ones and often working in harsh conditions.

Apostleship of the Sea relies wholly on voluntary contributions. They are only able to continue their work through the generous donations of supporters and volunteers.
