Job opening for Financial Accountant

Diocese of Middlesbrough                                                                               
Financial Accountant
Full-time – 35 hours per week

Salary in the region of £37,500 per annum

The Diocese of Middlesbrough wishes to appoint a Financial Accountant to assist the Head of Finance in the financial management of the diocese.

The primary responsibilities of the role include:

  • Financial Reporting: Preparing accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Undertaking treasury function: cash forecasts and bank reconciliations.
  • Responsibility for maintaining bank records at parish level.
  • General Ledger Maintenance: Maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assisting in creating and monitoring budgets, providing insights based on financial analysis to support strategic planning.
  • Payroll: Preparing payroll files and ensuring compliance with tax and pension regulations.
  • Audit Support: Assisting with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and implementing audit recommendations.
  • Financial Analysis: Analysing financial performance indicators to identify trends, opportunities and areas of improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all financial practices comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Work Collaboration: working as part of a finance team and providing guidance and assistance to colleagues when required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Applicants must be chartered accountants (ACA, ACCA or CIMA preferred) or studying towards qualification  
  • Applicants must have a full driving licence as the role will involve occasional travel to parishes in the diocese
  • Excellent Microsoft and excel skills
  • Sage 50 Experience
  • Analytical skills: Strong ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights
  • Attention to detail
  • Communication skills: ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders


Desirable

  • Charity Accounting Experience

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough covers a geographical area from Teesside to Humberside, consisting of Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees (south of the River Tees), the cities of Kingston upon Hull and York, East Yorkshire and most of North Yorkshire.
