READ-A-BOOK-A-MONTH

After the Book of Judges in August, all blood-and-guts, the READ-A-BOOK-A-MONTH challenge relaxes in September, reading the short Book of Ruth, a family story with a happy ending. One pamphlet includes both books, as Ruth’s story is set in the time of Judges.

Mary Callan’s readers are used to her unexpected insights, but may still be surprised to hear Naomi grumble ‘I could have done without you trailing after me, Ruth.’ As always, Mary hopes to stimulate the reader’s own meditations. Towards the end of September, the launch event for 1 Samuel will be held at St Edward’s, Dringhouses, with worship led by the youth band, and drama from the early stories of King David. ‘Holding the launch event in different churches really helps to get them involved in the READ-A-BOOK-A-MONTH challenge,’ says Mary, ‘and is another way of strengthening Christian friendships.’

St Edward’s, Dringhouses, Sunday 20th September, 6.30 pm, launch event for 1 Samuel, all welcome.
