The Little BIG Assembly

September 2010 saw the historic visit of Pope Benedict XVI with powerful, memorable scenes in the Piazza at Westminster Cathedral, at the Big Assembly, Twickenham, and in Hyde Park. Thousands of young people joyfully celebrating faith and being affirmed in their voice and role in a vibrant Church.

During the Big Assembly Bishop Malcolm McMahon announced that the whole of the Church in England and Wales would celebrate the Year of Catholic Education. To mark this important year we recognize all the good work done by our Catholic schools and look to the future with blessed hope.

Brought to you by the Middlesbrough Diocesan Schools Service, the Little BIG Assembly will take place in four locations across the Diocese. Representatives from every school will be invited to participate in this special event which will allow us to celebrate as a family. With prayer at its heart the Little BIG Assembly will inspire those present. There will be a great atmosphere of joyful hope which happens when young people gather together before God.

Scripture, prayer, music, drama and inspiring speakers from across the diocese will all be a part of The Little Big Assembly. ‘MYMission: Middlesbrough Diocesan Youth Mission Team‘ together with In Reality: Hallam Diocesan Youth Ministry Team will present and animate the day which will also include contributions from schools across the Diocese.

The Little BIG Assembly will be an event which builds on the message at the heart of the Papal Visit. Taking the theme from the Year of Catholic Education: ‘I have come that they may have life to the full.’ (Jn 10:10) we will look again at Pope Benedict’s call to all young people to become saints.
