On Sunday 12th October 2008, 38 nervous but excited children joined the choristers of St Martin’s Ampleforth Prep School to experience being a Chorister for a Day. The visiting children had travelled from York, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Harrogate to the beautiful setting of Gilling Castle. After a morning of rehearsals the ‘would be’ choristers were taken to Ampleforth Abbey to prepare for the Choral Evening Prayer service at 4.00 pm. Read More

Students at St Mary’s College in Middlesbrough are celebrating an A level pass rate in 2008 of 95%. No fewer than 17 subjects have a 100% pass rate, and there are many outstanding individual performances, including six students, Rachel Clyburn, Clare Loughlin, Thomas Murphy, Paolo Rago, Laurence Smith, and Andrew Walls, who have 19 grade As between them. St Mary’s College, Hull takes the lead

On 16th July 2008, St Mary’s College in Hull hosted a successful conference sponsored by the Youth Sport Trust, with the support of the Catholic Education Service and the Church of England. ‘Community Cohesion, what does it mean for us?’ was the first national conference for faith school specialist sports colleges. Held at the National Centre for Early Music in York, the conference was aimed at head teachers, Directors of Specialism, Partnership Development Managers and diocesan officers and was chiefly organised by St Mary’s College. The start of the new term in September will mark a very special anniversary in the life of St Pius X Primary School, Berwick Hills, Middlesbrough, as it completes 50 years as a centre of Catholic teaching in this area of the town. Having opened its doors to welcome pupils for the first time in September 1958, the school was subsequently dedicated in April 1959. Read More
